PERSPECTIVE and a CALL TO HEALTH

Why are so many people vulnerable and sick? Why are many/most not sick, and even asymptomatic? How did we get to this place of immune system vulnerability? For the most part, we have been told, regarding COVID-19, that the people most at risk are the elderly and immune-compromised.

POSTURE: PART 2

When we think of posture we think primarily of correct spinal alignment — 24 vertebrae, sacrum and pelvis, stacked one on top of the other, with all the proper curves — to create the greatest stability and flexibility for support, ease, and grace of movement.

Stress and Your Adrenals

What do we think of when we think of stress?

Most people think of stress as emotional in nature. But the source of stress can also be physical, injury and pain, internal inflammation as a result of poor diet, or thermal in nature- from frequent extreme temperature shifts (no wonder we’re all so stressed out!). Thus, contrary to popular thought, all stress does NOT come from one’s parents, children or partner 😉.

HEADACHES – What a Pain in the Neck!

I recently had a patient who suffered from migraines for more than 20 years—most of her adult life—and who frequently relied on Imitrex, a heavy-duty prescription medication. After several fascial manipulation treatments, her headaches have become much less frequent. In fact, they’ve diminished from several episodes per week to fewer than 1 per month: a huge life change!

WHAT MOTIVATES ME TO UTILIZE NUTRITIONAL THERAPIES IN MY CHIROPRACTIC PRACTICE

When I think of nutrition, it’s in terms of one’s optimal function, as opposed to minimum daily requirements for survival. I think about the interactions between cellular and glandular health, and how these affect a person’s energy, motivation, and everyday performance; in other words, the ability to do the things one wants and needs to accomplish without interference from pain or weakness, including musculoskeletal, emotional, or psychological dysfunction.

HEALTHY WEIGHT LOSS AND IMPROVING BODY COMPOSITION (PART I)

What does Body Composition Mean? Most times when patients go to a doctor, the doctor measures their height and weight. But height and weight alone provide limited information about a person’s health and what they’re made of. For example, a pound of cheese is not the same as a pound of fish. The fats in fish, the Omega 3s we all know and love, are very healthy fats. They’re anti-inflammatory in nature and help support brain function, nerve function, cardiovascular health AND weight loss! The fat in cheese, however, as with other animal fats, is primarily saturated fat. Here’s the breakdown of cheese vs. fish

HEALTHY WEIGHT LOSS AND IMPROVING BODY COMPOSITION (PART II)

Most people would say “eating too much,” and/or “not exercising,” and although those reasons are contributory to weight gain, they are not the whole story. There are many people who exercise and do not overeat, yet their weight keeps increasing – or they are not losing the way they expect to. So why is this?

HEALTHY WEIGHT LOSS AND IMPROVING BODY COMPOSITION (PART III) – THE FIX

What helps us have a healthy body composition, overcome our food addictions, and subsequently lose weight? To begin with, we need will power; that’s for sure. There is no magic pill, no easy fix. We need to realize that food addiction is like any other kind of addiction: tobacco, alcohol, narcotics, etc. We need to be conscious in every decision we make about what we put into our bodies, every time, realizing it is our choice.

STRESS AND KNEE PAIN: WHAT’S THE CONNECTION?

As an Applied Kinesiologist, my job is to understand relationships between the musculoskeletal system, organs, and glands. The body is a complex, finely tuned, and integrated system; rarely does a problem occur in one place, especially over time, that does not affect other areas of the body, and/or mind. Our cells and systems are continually communicating, liver to large intestine, heart to chest and arm, ankle to hip (etc.) – AND adrenal glands to the knees.

CHRONIC SINUSITIS AND THE GUT

If you suffer from chronic sinusitis, you know it can make life very unpleasant – and not only your life, but also that of your spouse or partner. Why? Because you probably snore and are keeping awake, or waking up, your partner throughout the night. This can make for a very grouchy bedfellow. Then there’s the reliance on prescription medications and nasal sprays that, over the long term, stress your liver and do not really solve the underlying problem. In fact over 90% of chronic sinusitis cases are NOT the result of bacterial infections!

WHAT DO ALL THESE NEW DRUGS DO?

Unfortunately, many of us are indoctrinated to think that if a drug has FDA approval it must be all right, yet there have been over 200 FDA approved drugs that were later withdrawn after people became very sick or died.  Here are a few you might recognize: Accutane, DES, Fen-Phen, Vioxx, Bextra, and Seldane. These caused serious problems ranging from birth defects, to tumors, to heart disease and increased risk of death. It is sadly evident that FDA approval does NOT necessarily mean a drug is safe, and the prevalence of unsafe medications in the marketplace stands in sharp contrast to the sensible adage: “First, do no harm.”

HAIR LOSS

If you are losing your hair, or know someone who is, then you know that it can be very frightening and anxiety provoking. There are several products on the market to help deal with the symptoms of hair loss, and may, for some percentage of the population, act as a temporary fix. These products however do not go to cause. Like many OTC medications they treat symptoms only, and quite often with unwanted side effects. Some causes of hair loss: Anemia, Hypothyroidism, Autoimmune Disease, Hormone Imbalance, Stress, Zinc deficiency, and Malnutrition. To investigate I order blood work...

THE QUICK FIX IS NOT A FIX
  • Rapid Weight Loss vs. Lifestyle Change
  • Anti-inflammatory medication vs. Anti-inflammatory Diet
  • Pain medication vs. Chiropractic care and Applied Kinesiology
  • Anti-anxiety meds vs. Meditation and exercise
  • Infatuation vs. True Love
  • Fast food vs. Home cooking

As one can see by looking at the above list, the quickest ways are not necessarily the best ways, and most of the time, are not the healthiest ways.
